Associate Degree in Media Studies Print E-mail

Course Introduction:

This is a first and second-year degree level programme. It prepares students for credits transfer to the third year of partner universities.

This programme covers subjects in journalism, broadcasting, TV, visual production and public relations. 

Theoretical and practical training in journalism makes up the core of this course which offers skills in interviewing, news writing, news editing, caption writing and photojournalism. Students will also be exposed to various types of communication behaviors and media organization at different levels of society.

The programme also provides minors in radio broadcasting, visual production, online journalism and public relations which are integrated with digital technological training. It aims to create well-rounded communicators in an electronic era.

To provide opportunities for first-hand experience, staff and students have frequent interaction with and make visits to various types of media organizations including radio stations, TV stations and press. Guest speakers are invited to speak on a variety of professional and contemporary issues. 

The programme offers a media-centered approach in studying the relation and interaction between mass media and contemporary society. Emphasis on various schools of communication theories prepares students for better understanding of communication behavior and media organizations. Students will also be exposed to the humanities to sharpen their sensitivity and analytical ability.

Career Prospects:
Graduates of this course can find careers in diverse industries including press, TV, radio broadcasting, magazines, publishing, research companies etc. They can choose to be either journalists, editors, TV news anchors, marketing executives, public relation executives, translators, media analyzers, researchers, consultants etc. They can also choose to further their studies abroad or locally in any of our partner universities.
