ESST - "Tradition and Innovation: Ethnoscience in Physical Sciences, Social Sciences and Technology” Conference
Introduction
In an era of globalization and rapid technological advancement, ethnoscience—science rooted in the knowledge, beliefs, and practices of local communities—continues to play a crucial role in shaping our understanding of modern science and technology. The conference, themed "Tradition and Innovation: Ethnoscience in Physical, Social, and Technology Sciences," aims to examine the relationship between the heritage of traditional knowledge and scientific advances and how the two can be combined to solve today's challenges.
Through three main areas—Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, and Technology—the conference will feature academic discourse that connects ancestral knowledge with contemporary scientific approaches. Participants will discuss how societies in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, China, and Singapore have long applied science to agriculture, medicine, astronomy, engineering, and manufacturing and architectural technology. In addition, we will examine the role of ethnoscience in shaping cultural identity, education, and environmental sustainability.
The conference brings together academics, researchers, and practitioners of traditional knowledge from various disciplines to share their research and experiences. By integrating tradition and innovation, we can enrich modern scientific knowledge and elevate local cultural values and wisdom in facing a more sustainable and inclusive future.
