Course Introduction

Malaysia first private university approved to offer Bachelor Degree Programme in Counselling. Graduates are eligible to apply for professional licensing from Malaysian Board of Counsellor (LKM).

Bachelor of Arts (honours) in Counselling is designed as a four years’ degree programme where students are required to do their counselling internship in the final year. Upon completion of 126 credit hours, students will be awarded the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Counselling.

The curriculum of this programme is designed according to the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia and Malaysian Board of Counsellor’s standards and requirements. Therefore, graduates of this programme are eligible to become a registered counsellor.

This programme covers the major fields in psychology and counselling. Students will be trained in three aspects: theoretical, supervised counselling practicum and internship training. In order to equip students with the professional knowledge and skills, current programme will introduce students with the latest and different perspectives of psychology including counselling theories, counselling skills, interviewing techniques and the development of counselling psychology. Moreover, students will learn to deal with clients with psychological and mental health issues, provide individual/group/family therapies derived from extensively researched interventions, assessment, and research.

  • STPM (CGPA 2.0) with 2 Principal Passes
  • UEC with 5 Credits
  • Foundation Programmes (CGPA 2.0) from New Era University College or other local tertiary institutions
  • Diploma programmes (CGPA 2.0) from New Era University College or other local tertiary institutions
  • A Level / Other qualifications deemed equivalent by MQA

Career Prospects

Graduates of this programme are eligible to apply for professional licensing as a counsellor to widen their career paths. They may also find employment in work related to psychology, counselling, social work, or human resource management either in the corporate field or non-profit organizations such as community service centres, education setting, learning institutions or counselling centres. Moreover, they may also choose to further their studies in any Psychology related field (e.g. Clinical Psychology, Criminology Psychology, Educational Psychology etc.) or non-related field (e.g. Master in Business Administration, Management, Human Resource, Anthropology etc.) in other local or universities abroad.
