Course Introduction

Diploma in Graphic Design is a practice-based course that develops creative mind, critical thinking, reflective, and technical skills enhanced by pertinent academic staff. The programme is distinguished by an emphasis on design processes that deal with visual communication while providing the technical expertise, experimentation and versatility. Students learn a wide range of skills that are supported by industry-standard software, tutorial, workshops, and studio environments. The programme develops student abilities in problem solving and encourages students to investigate, question and challenge the contemporary role of graphic design and understand the process, technique and management, to produce innovative, emotive, enduring and aesthetic designs through intense involvement in the design process. Students will gain the ability to translate an idea into a viable economic proposition. In addition, students are exposed to real-life projects, industry competitions, enriching field trips and visits to professional design studios as well as rigorous internships to ensure industry-readiness.

YEAR 1

Students will be introduced to the key aspects of the histories and theories of design, technical skills, design thinking and practice in graphic design. Students’ work will be supported by weekly technical demonstration sessions to enhance their digital skills. They will also be engaged in other practical workshops.

Students will develop a more professional approach to graphic design by enhancing the skills and knowledge gained in the first year. They will explore and research design principles and theories while engaging in practical design work. As they progress, students will refine their creativity and focus on professional interests to produce dynamic design solutions and build a distinctive, industry-ready portfolio.
