Programme Overview

This diploma programme is the first in Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region to be specifically designed for the training of International Chinese Language Education practitioners. Fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), the programme follows a two-year full-time study structure. Centred on the principle of “learning for practical application,” the programme integrates professional knowledge, practical skills, and cultural literacy to prepare students as competent Chinese language teaching professionals.

Programme Features

With a strong emphasis on practicality, the curriculum is designed with a practice-oriented approach. The academic structure is centred around Chinese linguistics, education, Chinese culture, and intercultural communication, and is divided into four core modules:

  1. Chinese Language Knowledge Module:
Modern Chinese, Classical Chinese, and the Chinese philology.
  2. Teaching Methodology Module:
Chinese pronunciation teaching, Chinese grammar teaching, Chinese listening and speaking, and the Chinese writing.
  3. Literature and Culture Module:
Ancient Chinese Literature, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Chinese Culture, and Intercultural Communication.
  4. Educational Theory Module:
Educational Assessment, Fundamentals of Education, Educational Psychology, Introduction to Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Introduction to Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, and History of Chinese Education in Southeast Asia.

In addition to local teaching practicum opportunities, this programme also offers overseas internship placements (DEPEND). These placements, hosted by designated partner institutions abroad, enable students to experience first-hand the expectations and characteristics of International Chinese Language Education, further enhancing their professional competencies.

Upon graduation, students may pursue careers in Chinese language teaching and related fields or choose to continue their academic journey by enrolling in the The Bachelor of Education (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language) (Honours) at New Era University College.
