Course Introduction
As Malaysia is facing the challenges of an ageing society (2020), aged society (2044) and super-aged society (2056), elderly care professionals will be one of the most respectable and rewardable career pathways for young and talented people. Modern elderly care centres and retirement properties are mushrooming in this country to cater for the emerging demand and are seeking after qualified personnels with attractive remuneration. New Era University is the country’s first university that offers a diploma in this field.
The Diploma in Elderly Care Management equips students with the comprehensive knowledge and skills to thrive in the care economy in a group or individual setting – this is important as the senior care sector is characterized by a long-term shortage of qualified staff. Students will learn from bottom-up: starting from the hands-on work of caregiving (e.g. daily activities handling, housekeeping, hygiene, safety & security, and emergency response handling) to management-level work (case management, care personnel administration, healthcare planning, documentation in care centre) so that our graduates can join a rewarding career or start a business and carry out most care procedures independently if necessary.
