Reinventing Transregional Deities: Chinese Beliefs and Practices in Southeast Asia consists of twenty-two chapters divided into four parts: The first part, “Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Chinese Society,” explores the three major religious traditions shaping Chinese communities in Southeast Asia. The second part, “Chinese Traditional Culture and Religious Beliefs,” examines key aspects of Chinese cosmology and ritual life. The third part, “Chinese–Malay Spirit Beliefs in Malaysia,” focuses on the interaction between Chinese and local religious traditions. The fourth part, “The Nine Emperor Gods Belief in Southeast Asia,” analyzes the transnational spread and local adaptation of the Nine Emperor Gods worship.
