Dr. Ng Yean Leng
A very warm welcome to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) of New Era University College (NEUC).
There are four departments in FASS. These are the Departments of Chinese Language and Literature, Education, Guidance and Psychology, and Southeast Asian Studies. NEUC is a community-funded university that emphasizes the humanistic values of education. FASS is hence similarly committed to the concept of human-oriented education and enlightenment to nurture students who are proficient in professional skills and inculcated with a strong sense of self-esteem.
FASS has put in place a range of specialised, diversified and integrative learning programmes which have nurtured successive cohorts of forward-looking and excellent graduates to serve society. Through a series of cultural and academic events such as international conferences, community projects, exhibitions of academic achievements, seminars, workshops and other activities, FASS has helped to produce young talents to realize the educational ideals of NEUC.
FASS launched its inaugural PhD programmes in Chinese and ASEAN Studies in a step forward to develop and build up research in the Social Sciences, and at the same to pool resources to enable the full use of its cultural assets to forge a new generation of research personnel. The Master’s programmes too will contribute to the training of academic and administrative personnel to serve the teaching services.
In addition, building on our ties with foreign universities and the local community, we are able to welcome Visiting Professors, Research Fellows and Industrial Advisors from home and abroad. Students are increasingly exposed to a more diversified and international learning atmosphere through student exchange schemes, attachments, and mutual visits to broaden their vistas and employability irrespective of their backgrounds.
We are working hard to raise our research and development agenda and talents training in the firm belief that the “educated cannot but be resolute to shoulder responsibilities that are not to be evaded.” This, I am confident, FASS will be accomplish without fail.
With these introductory remarks, I fervently hope that all Faculty members show our utmost concern to Faculty affairs and I look forward to all to play your active part in a united team to demonstrate our magnificent spirit. Thank you so much!
To be a centre of excellence in teaching, learning, and research
To produce trained manpower and nurture outstanding graduates to serve the needs of the community
