The Malaysian Journal of Chinese Studies is published by New Era University College, Malaysia, a non-profit institution of higher learning supported by the community.
First published in 2012, it is the only English-language journal in Malaysia that is devoted to the dissemination of original research on the Chinese communities. It is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal that publishes articles, reviews, and research notes based on the scholarly studies of contemporary Chinese societies in Southeast Asia and elsewhere in the world. The journal is issued biannually (June and December) in print and electronic versions. We welcome contributions based on empirical, comparative, or theoretical research that are of interest to a wide range of scholars.
The Malaysian Journal of Chinese Studies is a double-blind peer-reviewed publication dedicated to fostering scholarly discourse on contemporary Chinese societies, with emphasis on Malaysia, Southeast and East Asia. It is intended to serve as an international forum for scholarship on the critical discourse on the Chinese as well as their relations with other ethnic communities at the local, national, or international level from the perspectives of the social sciences and humanities. The aim is to provide a special niche to meet the growing needs of researchers working on the Chinese communities in the region and in the world as well as the Chinese diaspora.
The journal is intended to provide an international platform for rigorous academic research that advances understanding of Chinese societies in the local, national or international contexts and to facilitate meaningful dialogue and exchange of ideas across disciplinary boundaries. We welcome submissions from academic disciplines in the social sciences and humanities that employ empirical, comparative, or theoretical approaches to offer insightful perspectives on the multifaceted aspects of Chinese communities and their interactions with other ethnic groups.
