Speaker: Mr. LIE Nam Hing (Lecturer, Department of Art and Design, New Era University College)
Résumé of Speaker: Mr. Lie graduated from the Malaysia Institute of Art (MIA) and holds a MA in Design Practice at Northumbria University, Newcastle, United Kingdom. He served for nine years in the field of graphic design and advertising, including as an Art Director. His research interests include Advertisement and Graphic Design, and black and white photography. He has participated in many artwork exhibitions between 2000 and 2016, including “SOGO Summer Art Festival” Exhibition, DAD Art Exhibition 8+6, Dong Jiao Zong High School Teaching Art Exhibition, “Ceramic Artwork at Heart” Art Exhibition, “Open Show” Art Exhibition, “Art@NEC” Art Exhibition, 4th Teacher Art Exhibition of Nationwide Chinese Independence High School and “Quiet Pride Show” Art and Design Lecturers’ Exhibition. Solo Exhibition: “Black and White, Photography” Exhibition (2013) and “Black and White, Photography” Exhibition 2.0 (2015).
Outline:
With advances in and affordability of mobile phone technology, interest in mobile photography is becoming increasingly widespread. The growing popularity and convenience in the use of mobile phone has increased the need for more professional skills in the production of high quality photos and in understanding the problems involved. Thus far, no aids or guidelines are available to mobile photography amateurs on aspects of visual expression and artistic presentation.
This research workshop will take participants through six basic steps in photographic technique:
- Understand the structure and settings of mobile phone camera,
- Why can’t you get what you see,
- General composition and visual dynamics,
- Description of light balance,
- Metering,
- Light categories and control.
